“Ian, wake up,” said a female voice.

Ian felt a light tapping on his face.

“Come on Ian, we’ve gotta hurry,” said a different female voice.

Ian blinked his eyes; his vision blurred.

As Ian’s eyes began to focus, he was startled to see two people standing over him.

“He’s awake! Come on baby, we’ve gotta get you out of here.”

Ian immediately recognized the voice--it belonged to Sarah.

Ian struggled to make his eyes focus as the other voice said, “Alright. He’s going to be a little groggy at first, just give him a minute to adjust.”

The other voice belonged to Lynn. Ian tried to move his arms once he realized the restraints had been removed.

“What are you guys doing?” mumbled Ian as he struggled to sit up.

“We’re here to get you out of this place,” said Sarah as she held Ian’s hand.

“What happened to Dr. Holbrook?” asked Ian.

“Everybody is gone Ian, the hospital was taken over by those lunatics. We’re lucky we were still able to get to you,” said Lynn.

She and Sarah helped Ian to his feet.

Ian rubbed his eyes and asked, “What do you mean everybody’s gone? What happened?”

Lynn seemed nervous, she looked around the room as she asked, “You ever seen that movie, Dawn of The Dead?”

Ian nodded.

“Well I hope you paid close attention to it, cause it’s real now.”

Ian’s mouth dropped open as he looked at the two of them and said, “Real? You mean that guy turned into a zombie earlier?” Ian paused as he looked at both of them. “You’re frickin’ joking, right?”

Lynn shook her head, “I wish I were. It’s gotten really bad since you’ve been out.”

Ian looked on the walls of the room for a clock. “How long have I been out?”

“About four hours,” said Sarah as she held Ian’s arm to help keep his balance. “It’s getting close to nightfall now, we’ve got to move.”

Once Ian was ready, they made their way out of the room and into the hallway. The hospital was a wreck, with beds and wheelchairs littering the hallways and broken items everywhere. As the trio ran to the stairway, a small group of people dressed in the same white hazmat suits as before came charging up the hall; they were armed, packing automatic weapons. Sarah and Lynn ducked into a vacant room with Ian.

As the gun-toting people ran by the room, Ian asked Lynn, “Do we have any guns?”

Lynn shook her head.

“Didn’t you learn anything from the movie?” asked Ian.

The three of them continued to head for the stairway at the end of the hall. Once there, Ian pushed the door open. They ran through the door and started downstairs. They were frightened when they came across someone slumped over against the wall at the bottom of one flight. Ian saw the man sitting in a pool of his own blood.

Ian spoke to the man, “Hey buddy, are you awake?”

The man slowly moved his head to reveal his face, coughed, and said, “Ian…“

“Dr. Holbrook!” yelled Ian as he ran to the doctor’s side.
